In the early 1980's, Franck Valles moved to California. Born and raised in France, the seeds of interest in furniture design were planted by working alongside his father, an antique dealer. Franck was inspired by the diversity of the pieces he helped to restore and sell. His hobby became a profession after he went on to study at The School of the Louvre, in Paris.
In 1984, Franck opened The French Tradition and began to make custom furniture in his garage in Marina Del Rey. Now, over 30 years later, his old-fashioned work ethic of precision and quality have been preserved while incorporating the most up-to-date technology.

For all fine pieces of furniture, it is important to take steps to ensure long-term quality and shine. Our typical finish consists of: distressing, sanding, shading and staining followed by two or three coats of brushed-on lacquer with light sanding in between with steel wool. Then two coats of wax are applied and the finish gets a final buffing.
