Winters Sewing has been doing high quality furniture upholstery and sewing in Salem and the surrounding areas since 1994. The basic upholstery service is a good choice for most simple furniture that is in good condition and just needs the cover changed. This service involves taking the old cover off the furniture, adding padding as needed, and putting on the new cover.

It is our mission to give you high quality, courteous, helpful service to meet your needs. Emmy Winters has helped her husband in Winters Sewing since 1996. She is also currently working as a care provider for PCL (Partnerships in Community Living) and she loves her job. Stephen was born and raised in California.
The owner, Stephen Winters, has worked in the upholstery trade since 1966. After learning the trade while working with father, he has refined his skill through the following years and eventually began working as a partner with his sister in their own business. In 1994 Stephen and his wife, Emmy, moved to Salem with their daughter and started their own business working from their home.

Stephen Winters is a skilled, accomplished craftsman. His work in repairing my vintage wing chair was all I could have asked for. It is wonderful to see the chair restored to its original sturdiness and functionality, and it looks great. I am grateful that such excellent work could be done so promptly. Stephen is an engaging person to talk with as well as being a master upholsterer.

We were pleased with our reupholstering. Stephen reupholstered our eight dining chairs and overstuffed chair & ottoman set. The overall quality and look are very good. Discussions with Stephen on choice of fabrics and options including padding density and style of fabric were good. The dining chairs are very nicely matched, with the tucks and folds uniform across all eight seats.
With the highly dense foam we chose, the work was likely a bit more difficult. The overstuffed chair is deeply folded and somewhat intricate. Again, the end-result is very nice. We are happy to have the set back. Stephen has a rather large backlog, but communication with text was good. Once our scheduled time was open, the turn-around from our dropping the seats and chair off and return were fine. But be patient, and check that the delay due to his backlog meets with your needs. We found the results worth the wait.

We have just returned home with our fourth reupholstered piece from Winters Sewing completed over the past couple of years. Our furniture and our home is better for Stephen's expertise. Stephen patiently and thoroughly answers our questions and guides us through possibilities and problems we may not have considered. His estimates are very detailed, there has never been an awkward misunderstanding. In each case the completed work has exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend Winters Sewing.

We had our couch reupholstered. It went from a casual, skirted, slipcover look to a clean line modern style. Stephen was easy to work with, had a good selection of fabrics to choose from, and was flexible when our schedule for the job changed. The cost was reasonable and the work was completed within the estimate he gave us. Stephen had several ideas that worked well to achieve the look we wanted. We will happily use Winters Sewing again.
