Just had my Williamsburg Chippendale three cornered chair repaired by the caning shop. The original caning was badly damaged over the years. The Caning Shop replaced the caning and it is beautiful. Excellent work. I am very happy with the work and they were a pleasure to deal with. See the attached photo.

It's nice to know craftsman still exist. It's a lovely little store and they do great work and are friendly as well.

Great furniture restoration, especially for any piece involving caning. Buy supplies for DIY, too. Very knowledgeable and excellent work

I have for Spanish style Southwestern chairs that we are desperately in need of canning after my cat's destroyed them over period of 20 years. It was impossible to find chairs made with this quality and the superior caning at the price I purchased them 20 years ago. The owner provided me with several choices for recaning them at a reasonable price that I am quite satisfied with I will certainly use this business again

Could not have asked for a more professional and passionate business. High quality work. I trust all my French antique chairs & armchairs to the Caning Shoppe. Update : I continue to recommend Jeremy's craftsmanship - he has repaired and restored most of my family's chairs and armchairs. Unbeatable price for the quality and excellent customer service. I am so thankful for the talent in this shop!

We took 2 rockers in there months ago and are still trying to find out when they will be ready. Called and called and got weird message like the number had been disconnected. My husband made a special trip last week to see if the shop was closed. Was able to speak with Jeremy who said he didn't know the chairs just needed caning. (What?) They weren't done.

My husband made a second trip this morning (Thurs) and the shop was closed. We're so frustrated. Today my husband picked up our chairs. Turns out there's been a family illness and Jeremy is doing the best he can to juggle family and work obligations. I apologize for the earlier review and wish Jeremy and his family all the best. Our chairs look wonderful and we will definitely bring any future jobs to The Caning Shoppe.

I needed two chairs re-caned in a short turnaround window, and The Caning Shoppe went out of their way to accommodate, even having one of their craftsmen work on the chairs over the Christmas holiday. They were friendly, professional, and did high quality work for a great price. I will definitely come back and highly recommend them.

Fantastic experience working with Jeremy to bring some old oak chairs back to life. He reglued joints, replaced seats, quickly and at a reasonable price. Couldn't be happier. He knows his stuff and obviously cares about treating furniture well.

We have had our vintage Breuer chairs recaned at The Caning Shoppe over the years, most recently at their new location in Somerville, near Davis Square, Cambridge. They are very affable and knowledgeable, and we value their expert recaning. They will also deliver the finished product for customers that wish that service. They have loads of work--a testimony to their skills--so things can take a bit longer than initially promised. For us, this is a small tradeoff for their excellent craftsmanship.

Brought my wife's antique chair tone recanted; the work was excellent, the staff more than helpful, the price reasonable. Small shop w/ family staff; would recommend them for your caning needs.

I really liked the job done. I had three pieces repaired including 2 cane seats and one repair of an old mahogany night table that matches a really nice old set, and that was a complete bear to re-glue ( I tried it myself initially but it fell apart again). The Caning Shoppe did a great job bringing it back to life and I am thrilled with the seats too. Well worth any wait. They are backed up because they are good at what they do and within reason on price. Owners were very pleasant too.

I went to the Caning Shoppe because my great-grandmother's caned rocking chair needed a new seat. And my girlfriend had her bench fixed here and they did a good job, and it took about 2 weeks. I spoke to two different employees at 2 different visits to the store and they said their lead time was about 5-6 weeks but it would be done for Christmas.

I was fine with waiting if it was going to be done well and it was only going to cost me $110. I dropped it off on Oct 31st, I called on December 18th to find out if my chair was done, and the owner got on the phone and told me they hadn't even touched it. When he heard that I was upset he offered to put several people on it and that it would be done in 3 days.

I was a little taken aback by the fact that they had my chair sitting in their shop for 6 weeks and it actually only takes 3 days to install a new caned seat and to stain it to match the other caning. I picked up the chair and the caning part is nice, there are spots where it is not stained and it needs another coat or two of polyurethane. The seat is very rough with little pieces of wood /caning sticking up on the seat.

So I have to fix a chair that I waited 6 weeks for and had to have an unpleasant conversation with an shop owner who really didn't see why I might be upset. Why doesn't this shop just take reservations for people to drop off their items closer to the time they will actually work on it? And set your clients expectations so there isn't an upset customer. All in all I wouldn't recommend this shop. Turns out there are other caning shops out there and next time I will use someone else.

Got a really nice shoji-style lamp here. These are all hand-crafted wood/cane work pieces, as my friend Ger put it, they have a lot of character. Definitely things here are a lot more interesting than if you just got something at Target or whatever. It's probably a touch too expensive to outfit your *entire* house with pieces from here but a few things here or there would be a nice touch.

They have both western caned/wicker chairs and Japanese-esque shoji and bamboo styles here, in some cases these styles are mixed/hybridized in decorative screenings. Very interesting. Pieces in here would go well in most New England homes (not just "modern" styles), since they're warm woods and are a good complement to the styles in most houses in the area.
