We currently have added this video to our e-waste page, but feel it is essential enough to temporarily have on our front page as well. Due to the storm drainage work on Santa Fe, you'll have to drive around the block to get to our door if you are coming from Woodsweather. The next road in either direction E or W from Santa Fe will get you to the paved road that runs under the highway.

This place is a dump, but they do have a ton of used office equipment and decent prices. Their computer people (Dave) are kind of old school and behind the times in technology, but if you now what you want you might score a deal. If you re looking for a high level of customer assistance yo wont find it here, but if you know what you are looking for and are willing to roll up your sleeves yo can save some money.

Unfortunately the attitude from all the employees and management is unbearable. I hate it when I finally resort to coming here. Getting information is like pulling teeth and your a huge inconvenience if you want to buy something from them. If you want a 10 ur old14 VGA lcd screen for $20 this is your place. As long as you don't have any questions about it, other that that go to Microcenter or eBay.

This place is one of my favorites! I've bought a few hundred dollars worth of equipment here, as well as some office furniture. And I am 100% satisfied with my purchases. Even the ones that didn't work. Got a bass amp that had no output and they gave me my money back with no trouble. I bought a graphics card and the fan failed during warranty. They gave me a much nicer card in exchange, no extra cost.

Just be sure to hold onto the receipt! In addition I've recycled plenty of electronics here, without any issue, totally free!. And have gotten 25% and 50% off sales via their facebook. They save electronics from the trash, they have good deals, and they stand behind their warranties. Rock on Surplus Exchange!

Great place to recycle electronics. You can also pick up all different kinds of used office furniture, desks, file cabinets, chairs, waiting room chairs, cube divider walls, etc for less than retail. They also have rebuilt computers at a discount price. I love that they recycle all Electronics that you bring to them sometimes for free and other times for a small fee. But items are guaranteed not to be disposed of in a landfill.

A great service in the community. Recycle anything electronic here - CRT monitors, printers, and televisions are all charged by the pound, but anything else is free to recycle.

I'm a fan. First, people are right - it's the city's best kept secret. I'm a freelance writer with a home office and kids in college. A lot of my office equipment comes from Surplus Exchange because the prices are so reasonable. My leather office chair that looked brand new was only $25. I've bought two iMacs for my kids, an HP pro laptop my daughter calls "a beast" for film editing, and iMac for my intern to use, three tables suitable for my living room, and a 32" television that was like new condition.

They always seem to have what I'm looking for. Plus, they're really nice to work with. The staff is friendly and seem to like working there. So i visited recently to buy a tower PC system for a charity where I volunteer. It runs like a dream. They mostly have Windows machines (Macs are rare finds), but there is plenty of refurbished stock.

And if you go to the back dock, you can drop off your unneeded or nonworking computers and electronics for recycling. The inventory changes a lot so you may not find everything you need on a single visit. But it's worth repeat trips. Not open on Sunday or Monday so plan accordingly. Nonprofit, so support them if you can.

One of the best kept secrets in Kansas City for a variety of computer and furniture options! I found them when I first moved to KC in the 90's when I wanted vintage and groovy recycled office chairs and furniture. Pretty sure they supplied every fledgling gallery and artist's studio in the West Bottoms with tables, chairs, desks and display furniture.

Back then they were in a four story building and the owner regularly set out a row of FREE stray office chairs that the artists could take back to their studios! Today they continue to be a valuable resource by recycling largely used office furniture and equipment. I've bought 2 EXCELLENT computers from them and service after the sale is exemplary! They're a professional and valuable resource that does a fantastic service for the customers, Kansas City and the environment. Oh, by the way, you can recycle your old computers through them!

Love this place has a lot of great recycled items. Amazing prices! We have bought desk, office chair, multiple filing cabinets. Computer equipment. Just bought a metal cabinet with doors that we are putting on patio to put a TV in, very happy with selection. Very helpful. Why buy new when you can buy for a fraction of the cost for used?

Great place for used office/school type furniture. As a teacher, I appreciate being able to pick up quality used furniture on a budget for my classroom. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. They take apart anything I need and load it for me in my vehicle. The lady at the front check out counter is the best. When she finds out I am a teacher, she throws in free office supplies, like staplers and rulers. I highly recommend them.

I've never purchased anything from Surplus Exchange, but I have recycled here a lot over the years. It's almost unheard of to be able to recycle electronics for free.

I would like to Report @SURPLUS EXCHANGE unfair practices. The manager CARLOS has a side business fixing TVs, but denied me a refund or an exchange for 4 defective TVS I purchased from them. The video can be viewed on my INstagram page @ROWEROWE25 HERE IS ME BEING BLOCKED BY #surplusexchange MAKING MY CASE & THEN FACEBOOK BOOTED ME. I had a laptop and CPU that were still good but I don't have a use for, so I thought I'd donate them here so someone else could get some use out of them. I pulled up to the donation area (after driving through huge mud holes) and stumbling around in the mud to help the guy get my stuff (I wasn't really planning on having to wash my car and myself before my next stop, but I did end up needing to.) The guy takes the two computers and runs off into the building.

I asked another guy if they have tax receipts and he said "yeah, go ask him for one." So, I go chasing the guy into the building right as he's throwing the two computers down on the concrete floor from chest height. I mean, I guess I gave of them freely, but I was under the impression they would be put to use, not thrown down on the floor. They have tons of stuff, so I guess to them it's not much, but next time I think I'll do more research and try to find someone that really will use the stuff. I was planning to go in the store, but after that I just wanted to leave and never look back.

Surplus Exchange has excellent customer service and the company is all about helping youth in the KC area. My company has purchased three office's of furniture and the prices WOW! I can't say enough about how fair Bob Akers and the rest of his staff are, all the way to the guys on top in the warehouse. Thanks Carlos and everyone back there. It's a great company who gives back to the community. Way to go Surplus Exchange.

Good deals on used/refurbished computers. Large selection of used office furniture, too. They occasionally will have an online auction, too.

Part junk shop, part office equipment museum, full-time place where old desks, chairs, computers and filing cabinets go to die. Appropriately located in the true East Bottoms of KCMO, you don't get to this destination by accident. You're coming here with a purpose. I came looking for a new office desk, and while there are probably hundreds, didn't find what I was looking for, but certainly can't say you'd experience the same. I'm pretty sure I saw the same desk I sat behind for several years in the early 1980s at a south JoCo corporation.

A friendly young German Shepherd greets you at the door in case you're thinking of lifting something. I wasn't. I walked through, didn't see much of anything I'd want in my house but for a lot of businesses I'd think this might be a gold mine. If you're looking for some office equipment and an interesting "experience, " suggest you visit.

Just don't expect anything really fancy here, but if you're running a business on a real budget and don't have big design needs I'd think this place would be a gold mine.

I wish they had better customer service. An employee greeted us, and that was about it. No help, even while we approached the counter a couple times, letting him know we were interested in purchasing a PC. Asked several question in regards to laptops and other services they offer, employee seemed annoyed and as soon as other customers entered, we lost his attention and he moved on.

Awful customer service. I was really hoping for this to be my one stop shop for future purchases. Employee didn't really know info on any computers, was guessing, with little intention of going over checking specs for us. I thought most of the equipment was over priced, with the exception of cables/cords. if you lost a computer cord you can get them their for a buck or two. Its a bummer, I was kind of excited to go there, not what I expected. and probably not going back. Just my opinion. :

If you want to shop/buy, the entrance is on the East side of the building. If you are directionaly challenged, that's the side closest to downtown KCMO. To drop off items to recycle, go to the KCK side of the building. I love that there is an organization that devotes its energy to recycling electronics and office furniture. They will take your electronics, and you can also shop around for computers and office furniture.

Need a large filing cabinet? This is your place. If you are REALLY good at messing around with computers, this is the place to get a cheap one, or get some parts to do whatever with.art? When I need a new desk chair, I will probably be headed back down there. The employees were engaging and helpful. Just another reason to take an adventure in the West Bottoms.
