I have been selling more and more of my fountain pens which also leads to more questions on how to use our pens. I wanted to address this with a video demonstrating how to refill a standard fountain pen and how to clean them as well. Here's quick review of our Neopean Ballpoint pens. One of our most comfortable pens to write with and it takes any standard Parker type refill.
Garret Kojima has been artistic all his life and during this interview he talks about his beginnings as a popular painter and his inspirations for continuing his art and business. In this edition of Talk Story I interviewed Francisco Clemente. A master carver living in Hawaii. He is one of more than 90 featured artists at Simply Wood Studios and he has a fantastic story to tell you. What got him started in woodworking? What inspires him? How did he start a second career doing what he is passionate about?
We have two very unique desk clocks both made out of Curly Hawaiian Koa that capture the beauty of the Hawaiian wood. The "live or natural "edge shows off the unique artistry and characteristics of Koa. The clock face easily pulls out to reveal the battery compartment. What has become one of our best sellers in our stores, we sell Hawaiian Koa rings inlaid into a Titanium band milled and produced in Hawaii. These are the best quality Koa Titanium rings you will find. Contact us for a size and style. Shipping is free with a regular priced purchase.

They have amazing service, beautiful art work that is hand-crafted and only made in Hawaii, AND they are super nice and hard working people! I would highly recommend this place to shop at if you need any gifts.

Cyndy's Bottom Line: Besides the exquisite koa pens there are beautiful one of a kind wood pieces from local Hawaiian artisans. The Hart Street studio is located in a commercial warehouse right above the D. Otani Produce Building. Ater the fire station, turn right up the steep ramp. Suite #207 on the Diamond head side. *Call for appointment (808) 626-5300 *Free parking available *Shop online at www.simplywoodstudios.com I found out about the Simply Wood Studios because my koa clock fell apart and needed repair.

So I wanted to purchase another one. Simply Woods Studio's website carried a similar koa clock so I called and asked to hold it so I can look at it. I brought in my broken clock to see if there was a chance that it could be fixed. Aaron said yes he would be able to fix it. I was so happy that he would fix it because there is a sentimental attachment to my clock.

So besides buying a new clock I also got my clock repaired. The studio has a great selection of wood work from local artisans. Beautifully hand crafted. Mahalo Aaron for fixing my clock!

Incredible store for more personal Hawaii-made gifts. I was gift shopping for family and friends and the staff were beyond friendly, patient, and helpful. They gave me great recommendations and really listened to what I was looking for. Cannot recommend more!

Super rude, when you are looking to spend $$$ look somewhere else, the attitude in this store was unreal. "What are the pictures for" - use your brain Followup - No, you said "What are the pictures for" and acted like a huge douche which is why I took the time out of my trip to write this initial review. Maybe we caught each other on a bad day, Submit pictures of your "no pictures please" signs to google reviews and yelp etc so people know what they are getting into, Taking the virtual tour of your shop it doesn't appear that you've got any signage regarding this.

I would have loved to come inside and make a purchase, but they were closed! At 2:58 on a day they were supposed to be open till 5. This is my third time trying to visit this store. Twice before they were closed at 4:30 which is frustrating, but understandable for a shop to close 30 min early. The most frustrating part of this experience was when I was looking inside I saw a worker and she came up to the door and pointed at the closed sign. BUT WHY?

Why point to a sign that says you are closed to someone who is standing outside? I obviously I knew it was closed because the sign said closed, the lights were off, and door locked. Why is it closed when someone is inside and it is not supposed to close for another 2 hours? I wanted an answer, not someone to point to a sign that gives me literally no new information.

This is such a great shop! I stopped here multiple times on my vacation because there is so much beautiful product to look at. All handmade products by locals, I just could not get enough of it! Not to mention the service is spectacular, the employees know everything about each item that is made in there! Definitively will be coming to simply wood studios every time I'm in Waikiki.

Lau Lau woodcraft offers a beautiful assortment of Premium Koa wood pens. Some designs include surfboard resin, Italian acrylic, marble, alrar and other wood for flair. Writing instrument art are available in ball point. Roller ball, fountain, and even pencil. We went in to get 6 gifts but couldn't resist treating myself to one, too! I used the Yelp check in discount of 20% for one Pen! Way to go Simply Wood Studios and Yelp!

I was impressed by the workmanship and balance on a rather modestly priced $45 koa wood pen, nicely presented in its case that I ordered as a gift. Prompt Internet service. These pens make terrific "remember-me" and "thank you" gifts without being overly personal. Thanks to Aaron Lau for his talent, and to my daughter for her recommendation. Linda Meredith 8/30/16

Went into the on-site store and had really nice service and pleasant conversations. Had THE best service and could even re-order something from the mainland with personal modifications. Great store.

They are located across the street from the famous Leonards Bakery, so have a Malasada and check it out. All their artisanal products are made in Hawaii. The variety of local art, wood carved products and even jewelry off the beaten path is different and felt more personal than typical hotel and Waikiki shopping. Incredible pens, I purchased a custom fountain.

The young man/owner explained how he makes them and invested a ton of time making the experience memorable! Highly recommend one leave the beach crowd behind and seek out this gem!

Aaron loves his work and it shows. I have given these pens as gifts to ambassadors, CEOs of international companies, and even the President of Taiwan. Yes, I just said the President of Taiwan. Aaron is a really nice guy and even willing to ship pens to me overseas when needed.

I didn't have enough time to look at all their goodies but, as usual, Aaron Lau's pens were beautiful to behold. If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind gift this place has lovely presents made by local artisans :

Beautiful koa pens and other wood art in a shop across from Leonard's Bakery (malasadas). Call first to make sure they are open and ask where to park! Found a beautiful curly koa fountain pen for gifting and the sales girl allowed me to try it, even prepping it with a little ink so that I could determine the smoothness of the instrument. Bought it! Wonderful local wood and glass art for original gifts! Wish someone would buy me something from this shop. Woo hoo!

Family-owned business where they specialize in working with koa wood, and other types of wood. They are high knowledgeable, and popular amongst both consumers and tourists, but they are pricey -- really hard to negotiate with the prices. On the bright side, they are local, and not over priced like those mass production stores in the main Waikiki areas.

Charming little shop that I only noticed due to having to wait to be seated next door at Il Lupino. I am certainly glad I came across it! From the moment I walked in with my mom, we were treated great by the one woman who was working behind the desk. I did not get her name but she had long blonde hair and was super friendly. She complimented us on our tattoos and our outfits and did some simple chi-chat.

Sales pitch? Doubt it. Though a lot of the merch was beatiful and all hand-crafted, I was not expecting to buy anything but I fell for the light-weight earrings and a necklace. This store would probably see a lot more customers if it was in a better location, but at least everyone staying at the Royal Hawaiian or visiting Il Lupino will see it! Spend your hard earned money on some nifty gifts at Simply Wood rather than the overrated, lame Il Lupino next door! These people deserve credit!

This is a great local business to support selling hawaiian made products. I noticed them at the local craft fair couple weekends ago at the Blaisdell. The koa pens are beautiful. I didn't know how much work was actually put in to make a koa vase or box. It's amazing! The owner is a hard working young entrepreneur who knows a lot of wood and woodmaking. He was very helpful and was very accomodating with special orders! I'll have to visit the store one day after I get my favorite Leonard's malasadas.

I love to support and buy local. The owner is born and raised in Hawaii, and the beautifully crafted products are from local artisans using native woods. The owner not only sells the products, he makes them, check out the pens. You can even watch him make the pens. What's great about this store/gallery the owner is very knowledgeable. He can tell you how the products were crafted, how to take care of them, and the best uses for them.

I just crossed the street from Leonard's Bakery to see what was in this store called Simply Wood. Very nice stuff.most of the items are made from koa There are clocks, wall decoration, a chess set, paddle board paddles, lamps, furniture, and more. The owner, Aaron, specializes in koa pens which he makes with beautiful inlays.all different. What a great gift.practical, but unique!

Of course, I purchased one for a special friend. I found out that Aaron, also, is a local rep. for a paddle board company.so if you are interested in paddle boarding, he's the man to go to.

If you want a super cool thingamajigger made out of wood, this is the place for you. I am especially fond of the pens crafted by the owner himself! SImply gorgeous! If you are a pen aficionado, you must add one to your collection or if you know one they will definitely be impressed. Like a boss. Or a warlord.

What to get for a birthday gift? What to get for Christmas? What to get for Secretary's Day? Every year I would go through this dilemma. However a few years ago, I started to buy Aaron Lau's (Lau Lau Woodworks) unique pens as gifts and no longer had an issue thinking of gifts. They are fabulous! He's located at Ward Warehouse - in a kiosk close to the As Seen On TV shop.

The pens are unique, one-of-a-kind items that are timeless/classic. What's more impressive is that Aaron has a pen for just about any budget! Recently I visitted Aaron's gallery - Simply Wood Studios on Kapahulu. In addition to the pens, he has woodcrafts galore. Small items, large items, just about anything in wood that you can think of!

The works are carefullly crafted and one can easily sense the amount of time and dedication that went into each piece. There are beautiful wood boxes, card holders, furniture, decor. Anything you can imagine. If you're looking for the perfect gift - visit Simply Wood Sudios!

If you're looking for a really nice gift to get someone, this is the place. this studio consists of beautiful woodwork done by various artists of hawaii. the owner, aaron lau, has his share of artwork in the studio as well. he hand makes beautiful koa wood pens that also have many other materials incorporated into them, making each pen unique. i have given his pens as gifts many times and all recipients have been more than impressed. they get a lot of compliments on them as well! don't forget to check out this studio. and after you're done, treat yourself to a malasada for leonard's is right across the street! for you mainlanders, aaron's work can also be ordered via online.
