Scan Design We're head over heels in love with contemporary design and superb quality. We literally search the world to bring you the very best in selection, style and quality, then back it with unmatched customer service and design advice. Our story is a humble one. When we look back on this 50+ year journey, it's filled with memories we share from our family to yours - from delivering pieces in our first van which doubled as the family car, to seeing the kids and grandkids of our earliest customers walk into the showroom.
Services
How can you specialize in traditional furniture one day, and modern contemporary the next? That's why, since 1969, Scan Design has specialized in contemporary furniture, and nothing else. For us, contemporary isn't just a fad. It's what we know, it's what we love and it's what we've dedicated our business to.
Scan Design isn't a giant furniture company, or a division of a global corporation, and you won't find us at every mall and shopping center, nor will we stuff your mailbox with a fat catalog every month. But come in to one of our nine spacious showrooms throughout Florida and you'll see that when it comes to passion for contemporary furniture, our enthusiasm can't be beat.
From a small town in the Danish countryside, they boarded this plane and set off for Miami. After a few stops and bumps along the way, they decided to open a furniture store. Our founders Lis and Preben Knudsen sold furniture by day and delivered it at night. Early on they actually lived in the backroom of the 4,000 square-foot store with their 3 year-old daughter and newborn son. One make-or-break day, this allowed them to stay open past regular closing time and helped to secure an after-hours, rent-saving, sale.
The key to making your furniture last and look its best, is proper cleaning and maintenance. Should you need Care and Maintenance products for your new Scan Design furniture, we highly recommend using the products below from Master Cabinetmaker.

Scan Design has come to Fort Lauderdale with their new store. If you like Scandinavian design you will love this store. It is too bad that they can't display all they offer over the 2 floors of furnishings displayed. The prices are reasonable but don't wait around for a sale. The design consultants will say that Scan Design rarely has sales and when they do it is either floor samples or a design that is going to be discontinued. All and all Scan Design is an added good furniture option along Federal Highway that you must check out.

I paid $6,500 for a sectional; Isabel was our sales person. I asked about fabric protection and was told by Isabel that it would be treated for stain prevention. Less than 3 weeks after delivery of the new $6,500 sectional there was an accident which led to a stain on the fabric. We called Isabell at Scan Design for any help or advise she had in removing the stain and she laughed.

Yes her response was laughter, followed by a condescending statement saying we should have opted for the stain prevention (which we were told was INCLUDED). I am a 20 year patron of Scan Design, I have purchased my last 2 sectionals from them because I believed in their products. My loyalty to Scan Design has ended. Isabel, I'm talking to you, make this right and prove Scan Design (and yourself) are better than this.

Patricia Cooper was great to work with. She is helpful, insightful, creative and skilled at her craft. I wish there were more people like her. We bought a lovely couch and chair.

Had previously purchased a BDI desk and chair then went in to special order the matching return. When picking up I was informed foe the first time that unlike the desk, it only came with one panel to cover wiring, etc and if I wanted to purchase it was an extra $200 and wait until it shipped. When I spoke with the manager he was snarky and asked "did you ASSUME it came with two panels"?

He then went on to make excuses for this being the way it's displayed, etc. Based on his attitude I decided to return the whole $1200 purchase. If he had been more apologetic I may have paid the extra, but his attitude lost the overall sale and the commission for the saleswoman.,

I have always been a big fan of Scan furniture having purchased more than a few classic teak items while I lived in California and in Jacksonville, Florida. During a recent move from Jacksonville to Tampa, our movers somehow misplaced the pins which hold glass shelves in the classic teak dining hutch. I contacted the Tampa location and Caitlin and Dottie were responsive to my needs! Offering them to me free of charge is exactly what I would expect as a loyal customer. Thank you!

Three years ago I went to Scan Design and looked at a lovely leather couch that was at the front of the showroom. It was praised by the salesman for its comfort and style and was touted as an everyday couch that would last for years to come. While the asking price of $5,700 was a bit more than I wanted to spend, I went ahead and made the purchase.

Three years and two months after the sale, I began to notice cracks and peeling in the leather and so I contacted Scan Design. They informed me that in spite of the hefty price tag, the item was only under warranty for three years and so therefore was not covered. Apparently, the type of leather used in this couch, open end leather, was not truly suitable for daily use due to the fact that it will begin to deteriorate when it comes in contact with the body oil that comes from our skin.

So basically I was sold a couch that never was going to last and terribly unsuited for daily use. For $5,700. Buyer beware! Less than honest furniture dealers reside at Scan Design, ready to take your money.

This company won't stand behind their products. And I made the very expensive mistake after experiencing a manufacturing defect only to find out it was made in China after all. So much for Scandinavian prices and deceiving the customers. My purchase feels like its 2 steps above Ikea quality except the price was more like Restoration Hardware.

I have been in several of these stores. I like the style, but agree not much change over the years and very pricey. Staff is nice and attentive. It's is hard to justify the price when you could get a table somewhere else and an expensive men's watch on top of that. It will always have a market. Nice to browse like Bang and Olefsen. If price doesn't matter get whatever you want.

When our new sofa peeled and frayed after one year we returned to the store hoping for a solution. They proposed to charge us almost the original cost to repair it. We were told three different times we went to the store that the manager wasn't onsite and would need to call Monday to help us. The latest time he was on a boat, then on vacation until Tuesday. It has been almost two weeks and still no call. This store has poor quality and worse service. I would try DOMA or Restoration Hardware before this store.

Let me start by saying we purchased our desired pieces on the same day from 3 different suppliers, ScanDesign and two other high end furniture competitiors, with a promised delivery of 3 months (arrival before Christmas). Two weeks after ordering we were called and told that the color of leather we selected was no longer available. We went in and selected another color and specifically asked if we would have it on time; yes was the response.

A top end store would know their product specificiations and availability. Had I known at this point that it would not be available in time, I would have purchased from a competitor. The couch was delayed twice and we were notified that it would be available the last week of January. Even after it arrived at the warehouse we were told another two weeks until delivery.

We told them we would just pick it up ourselves and upon arrival they tried to add a 20% markup because we were using the 0% intrest credit card that THEY recommended for the purchase. Absolutely not. The salesperson did not attempt to broach the topic again and promptly reversed the delivery fee as requested. Upon assembly we noticed we were given the wrong frame for the couch.

We called the store to inform them and was rudely cutoff by the representative and told "in his time with the company, there had never been an instance of the wrong frame being provided". Well guess what? After sending them pictures of what peices we had been given, they had in fact provided the wrong frame. They did offer to deliver the replacement early the next business week.

Leave a partially assembled couch sitting through the weekend, I think not. I went and picked up the replacement. Not ONCE did the manager or salesperson apologize for the horrible service. Both competitors delivered their similiar pieces on time and with great quality. We choose to do business with companies that offer superior product AND superior service. ScanDesign - Tampa is not that company.

We get excellent, attentive, and professional service at Scan Design. In the last month, we have purchased over $8,000.00 in furniture. Last week, they had a closeout sale, and the prices were excellent on the tagged items. There is no substitute for quality, and all that we purchased here looks beautiful in the condo. Special thanks to the "Red Head" our salesperson, and to the manager of the store - He is a true professional, and runs a tight ship. We have more to buy, and this will be our first stop when we're ready to shop again.

We had a pleasure dealing with a couple of very funny, friendly, and knowledgeable ladies here at Scan Design. We came to this store 3-4 times before we decided on making a big purchase. I do not regret spending the money here at all. Huge showroom. plenty to look at. prices may make you jump a little, but you get what you pay for! Ikea may have something that looks like theirs but I promise Ikea stuff will last 1 year while Scan Design you can expect many many years from it. The leather is so soft. if you're looking for unique piece of furniture for your home that is comfortable, durable, and got style. this is the place to look!

Love the furniture here. It's simplisitc and modern and made from much more quality materials then Ikea's. Sure you pay a little more but you dont' have to replace it as soon. The service here is always top notch and friendly and they've gone out of their way with delivery help.

Picture this. A young Brigitte Nielsen sporting a platinum blonde Grace Jones flat top, wearing a white suede fringe jacket with massive shoulder pads, a high cut hip mono-kini, and doing lines of coke on a glass top coffee table. Her chrome heeled pumps digging into a white fur rug almost as sharp as her pointy anorexic elbows. She is surrounded by overpriced Patrick Nagel paintings, neon lights, and a leather couch.

In the background you see a white gloss stand alone bar set placed with turquoise leather bar stools. That my friends, is a vision of Scan Design furniture in all its glory. Still keeping it 80's as f*ck, while keeping it creepy-classy at the same time. Don't think it all went out with Beverly Hills Cop II, this style of furniture is still very much alive. $2000 side table?

I have many terrible memories of my mother dragging me to Scan Design (different location) as a child and making me sit there for hours while she would shop for furniture way out of our price range. Sometimes, it would take so long I would actually fall asleep on the showroom bed and have terrible nightmares of Gozer the Traveler covered in cotton batting trying to claw at me with glowing acrylic fingernails. So. just to get it out of my system as an adult and see what the big deal was, I went to this location with my husband last week. While my husband loves the 80's as much as I do, we were both literally running for the door with anxiety. "Aim for the flat top!"

If your style is modern/contemporary furniture, this is the place to go. There aren't many furniture shops in Tampa that carry such an extensive inventory of modern furniture. They also have an online website with a list of things that they are currently carrying. I've bought many pieces from them and had them deliver it to my home. The shipping company they work with is also very timely and careful with all the items.

The only thing you have to be careful of is that some things may not be in stock so it could take a while for it to be available. The staff that works at this store are incredibly professional and knowledgeable. When I was browsing, they were available when I needed to ask questions but didn't hover too much.
