Caveat Emptor - anyone looking to do business with Manhattan Cabinetry (MC) should be very careful. Know what they are about BEFORE you walk in the showroom. I ordered two bookcases from this company with the understanding (after I met with their salesperson Connie) that the company would build and install the bookcases. My troubles began after the salesperson handed me off to the people who actually run the company.

For me, dealing with the MC salesperson that I met was very similar to dealing with a stereotypical used car salesman; borderline dishonest, pushy, and committed to the hard sell. Know this going into the showroom: if you meet with Connie - ask for everything in writing, particularly if you live in co-op like me with lots of rules for vendors and contractors.

Ask to speak to the factory-- or the VP of sales there. They will set you straight about what the MC will and will not do. Don't take anything you hear in the showroom (or at least from the salesperson I met) on face value. The factory runs things--not the salespeople, or at least the one I dealt with. At one time, this company was a premier custom furniture maker.

Their vans are iconic. They may well still sell lots of custom furniture. Today, the company (or at least the salesperson I dealt with) seems more concerned about your deposit than making sure you're happy. Shop around before you try this company. There are dozens of young, talented makers--craftspeople who are straightforward about their business practices and build beautiful cabinetry.

To the management: It has been said that the first people you meet (usually at reception) are the face of your organization. if Connie is the face of your company, you need a makeover. She does not represent you well. Stay away if you can - shop around. THIS COMPANY HAS LOST ITS WAY.

Manhattan Cabinetry just completed the installation of a major wall unit and cabinetry across three walls in my study. I am thrilled with the results; it is both functional and beautiful. Connie did a great job translating my requirements into a beautiful design and Tommy's team turned the drawings into reality - the craftsmanship is amazing and the installation precise (they even created templates that my stone vendor used to fabricate the countertop). This project was complicated and throughout the process Manhattan Cabinetry provided expertise and guidance to get it just right.

I have used Manhattan Cabinetry twice. Once was several years ago for an individual custom cabinet in my bathroom, and most recently I used them for my entire kitchen and bathroom custom cabinets. They are literally the BEST if you are looking for incredibly craftsmanship and a real partner in design. My kitchen is very small and their ability to maximize the storage and at the same time the beauty of the space is beyond amazing.

I have 2x the storage space that I had in the kitchen before the renovation and the aesthetic that was accomplished is just beautiful. The bathroom cabinet had to be small but the size of the storage space in the 2 drawers was completely maximized by the drawer design around the pipes underneath. they did this with my previous cabinet and I LOVED it and the storage is what is in a large hall closet now.

So I was able to accomplish this again with their extreme measurements and partnership with my contractor and myself for design. Mark worked with me both times for wood and style of cabinets and countertops and was professional and understanding - but he was very exacting - and if you are paying for custom cabinets I dont know about you but I wanted someone exacting and the results speak to it. Tommy as the building forman was also exacting and came and measured 2x to make sure that it all worked and that it was customized outside and INSIDE the cabinets to maximize the space.

I loved how exacting he was as well - again the results speak to this. Joanne was my contact thru the process and she was WONDERFUL to work with - a great sense of humor, understanding in coordinating with a male contractor, male cabinet maker and male sales person! She was terrific and helped everyone work in concert - and again the results are just fantastic.

I HIGHLY recommend Manhattan Cabinetry IF you are looking for a custom, high craftsmanship, maximization of space and BEAUTIFUL cabinet experience. I specifically went to them because of the INSIDE custom design and the maximization of my space while NEVER sacrificing the beauty of the outside. But know that they are exacting and specific in their conversations and suggestions with you and will not compromise what they are doing for you by rushing the measurements before the contracting work is ready.

They also keep you in the loop every step of the way and will make it right if there is something you are concerned about during or even after the process. GREAT company and people! Again HIGHLY recommend them!

Stay away from Eric. He's rude and unprofessional. I've shown my layout and discussed my plans with other businesses; but Eric is the only one to say "That's stupid"; and then roll his eyes and be dismissive. Instead of talking to you about a problem, he talks to you as if you're the problem. They are numerous places to get cabinets in Manhattan with designers who are courteous, professional, and with whom you can have a working relationship. No need to put up with a jerk like this guy.

Eric, rude, dismissive and pretentious. Just called for 2 things: 1. To sell a 6 month old TV lift mechanism from a company that warranties it for 10 yrs. As he heard my question, he said "no" before I could finish. Fine, you don't want to buy a LIKE NEW in box, warrantied mechanism in which you'd pass that on to a customer and make more.but he said he doesn't buy used or seconds and that it wasn't under warranty.

When I tried to ask how he know that from Nexus, he kept trying to get me off the phone and say "I'm not interested." I had a second inquiry.wanted a murphy bed/wall bed custom made. These cost upwards to 5K.you lost that sale Eric! And your competitor Gothic is buying the lift and will make my wall bed. My suggestion, go back to customer service 101 school and learn the art of sales because you clearly don't get it nor know how to treat people.

Horrible people, horrible experience, don't work with connie there she is nothing but your worst nightmare. I don't think any employee at MC has heard of the phrases, customer service, customer satisfaction. On top of that there work is mediocre at best. You will receive nothing but migraines when working with them.

I used Manhattan Cabinetry to install an entertainment unit. The unit is beauutiful but the sliding doors needed an adjustment. MC returned twice to adjust doors to my satisfaction. 5 stars for MC and thanks to Connie and Gustav.

This is the classic "I was motivated to write my first Yelp review due to offensive service" post. If you are looking for luxury quality crafted furniture and are willing to pay for it DO NOT GO TO MANHATTAN CABINETRY AND DEFINITELY DONT EVEN TRY APPROACHING ERIC THE HEAD DESIGNER AND SHOWROOM MANAGER UNLESS YOU ENJOY BEING SPOKEN TO AS IF YOU ARE THE ONE PROVIDING A SERVICE".

Among the jems imparted to me by Eric the establishments manager were "downtown is too far for us to go and measure", and "you haven't spent any money with us yet" in response to assuring him the trip to measure would be worth it. I was also told I was "flagged as an impatient customer" because I asked if they wanted to let someone less busy help me after not having an inquiry answered for 2 days. Luckily looks like I smelled the nightmare coming and ran out of the showroom before proceeding. Hopefully you will be as smart! Only left one star because zero isn't possible.

I an a contractor in manhattan and I wanted a new relationship with a professional larger company to do all my cabinet jobs for me. I dropped plans off to a lady salesperson and she held them for two weeks and I still never got a price. This was a cabinet job that was very detailed and very expensive. So I finally called to get the status of the quote and they tell me 2 1/2 weeks later that they don't want to do my job.

I was upset and I got tons of attitude and totally blown off. They wouldn't make stainless doors, which they show In their showroom. Super unprofessional! My time was totally wasted and when I told them this wasn't right she said that we obviously got off on the wrong foot so she didn't want the work. Shocking especially since I could have brought them six figures of work every year. I get better service at IKEA!

Just called to have 2 simple cabinet doors made and got so much attitude from the owner. After a list of snarky questions ("you don't know what kind of wood you want? do you at least have the right dimensions? what am i supposed to do if i get there and the doors are the wrong dimensions?"), the final nail in the coffin was when he asked where these are being installed.

I answered, "in the living room, underneath a bar, " and he responded, "what am I, a mind reader? is it in New Jersey? Queens? Long Island? Where?" At that point I'd had enough and simply hung up on him. Oy. Go somewhere else.
