Jensen Lewis In 1886 Charles Jensen did not set out to be a furniture retailer. In fact, he was a sailmaker, par excellence. His specialty: canvas sails for both pleasure and commercial craft. In 1921 Edward Lewis started a company in custom-made canvas awnings for residential as well as business use. It was not until 1932 that these two canvas craftsmen joined forces to become Jensen-Lewis, the premier maker of canvas awnings in New York City. Thus when the company began selling canvas furniture in 1964, it was a natural outgrowth of both Charles Jensen's and Edward Lewis' endeavors.

My husband and I cannot say enough about Mike and the customer service department at Jensen-Lewis. We had an issue with one of our bedroom furniture pieces and Mike, after speaking with the manufacturer, had it resolved not only satisfactorily but beyond our expectations. Thank you Jensen-Lewis!

The professionalism and knowledge of their products is outstanding! I was guided by Avalon to find a recliner that fit, not just my room but me! Like a shoe a recliner comes in sizes and a good fit is a must. I wound up getting a small for my frame. David also guided me to find the comfort and size I needed. And no one rushed me. I would choose Jensen and Lewis for all my furniture needs.

My husband and I had a wonderful sales lady when we bought a chair atJensen-Lewis. She kept quiet as I did while my husband sat in many different chairs until he made up his mind. Avalon Peters has a lovely manner and we were fortunate to have her. Barbara Sullivan

This review is for the Luonto Monika full sleep sofa. The entire transaction was smooth, efficient, and professional! Anthony was a wonderful salesperson who showed us the floor sample, told us it was in stock, and arranged delivery within a week! The delivery was well communicated by the shipper and arrived early in the delivery time window in perfect condition!

So far so good. The White Glove delivery is what swayed me to go with this company. Although it isn't free, my expectation is they will properly set up as opposed to some sites which would leave your furniture outside.

I had a great experience at this store and was helped by Avalon. She was very knowledgeable about the Stressless recliners and helped guide me and feel confident in my decision making! Highly recommend.

This place is so unprofessional and horrible quality and customer service. Ordered a BDI media stand and waited 5 weeks for delivery. Then it arrived damaged. When I spoke to them on the phone they were extremely rude and said they could replace in another 4-6 weeks and couldn't rush it or anything even though thjs is their mistake. I should have listened to the other shitty reviews so I guess that's my mistake. Do not get anything from this place.

Wish I had read the reviews prior to ordering from here. I ended up with something different than I expected (the salesperson neglected to go over the details of the product nor any options available) and the company wouldn't do a thing about it besides allowing me to purchase another expensive sofa with a very small discount! I'm stuck with an incredibly expensive piece of furniture that I would never have intentionally ordered.

I would give this NO stars if that was possible. The furniture here is beautiful. Very upscale store. So my expectations were high, especially given the cost of the sofabed I purchased. The sales person was helpful and courteous. We placed our order in mid April and anticipated delivery in 2-3 months. So that takes us to July. I still had heard nothing in July - no email message, no text, no phone call.

So I called to follow up and told me there was a delay in production, transportation, etc. all due to Covid so they were now looking at September. By late August I STILL had not received any update, outreach, notificiation, information. so I called again, at which point they told me they thought MAYBE the sofa would be moving out of the warehouse in September and it would take 5 WEEKS to arrive in the New York area, then they would need to arrange for delivery.

I was livid and the obnoxious, condescending person on the other end of the phone, who was not the salesperson, could not have been more prickly, dismissive and unhelpful. What made me so angry was not the unacceptable time delay - although that was annoying to be sure - but it was the lack of customer service and disrespectful treatment, plain and simple.

No outreach, EVER. When I called to follow up, I was treated as if, who am I to expect any outreach or updates? I then called a day ago (mid September) to be told that they THINK the furniture will be on a truck leaving the warehouse in Texas maybe next week and will not arrive for 5 weeks to New YOrk. At least that was consistent! But again, the condescending and dismissive treatment by the same person on the phone is what really made me mad.

When I asked for his supervisors name, he told me that he was the supervisor. When I asked if he ran the company, he said yes, he was a PrincipaI. If this is true, I hope his partners are reading this review. I rarely post comments but I was so aggravated by this treatment that I had to warn others to avoid this company. Many other furniture stores have just as nice offerings at lower prices and actually existing customer service. Don't pay thousands of dollars for a piece of furniture just to get treated like a piece of.

Avalon is a terrific sales associate: Patient, knowledgeable and very helpful. The furniture sold by Jensen Lewis is top notch! While pricey, it's all quality. I highly recommend this store.

Our experiences with Jensen Lewis have always been great, starting years ago in the old Chelsea location. Have only dealt with staff who were actually a pleasure to work with, knew their stuff, followed up. Furniture was as ordered, excellent quality, lasted more than a decade and still going. We did once go to another furniture store (R and F) that was horrible by comparison - from issues w delivered furniture to prices and financing gimmicks (not the salespersons fault). Just sayin: J-L is the place we go back to.

I bought a BDI tv cabinet to bring some organization to my tv and the equipment that plugs into it. I found a piece made by BDI and was disappointed that there wasn't a built in power strip. The salesman told me I could just buy one and put it inside. Easier said than done. I've ordered and returned 3 different power strips because the plug heads can't fit through the diminutive hole they put in the back of the unit.

Would it have killed the designer to make the hole a half inch bigger? Clearly the designed didn't user test the piece as they would have found out that many (if not all) power strips are not compatible with the unit. The only way I can get my tv to work is to to have the power strip outside the unit. I bought the unit to hide my equipment. With everything outside the unit, It defeats the purpose of having it at all! I absolutely hate this cabinet and wish I had spent my money elsewhere.

I ordered a bookcase, desk, recliner and file cabinets from Jensen Lewis with delivery and installation. They delivered everything but failed to tell us that the bookcase was not connected to the wall because the parts were not available. My husband, not knowing this, tried to put books in the bookcase and the unit hit him on the shoulder. Luckily someone else in the room was there.

They ended up sending the parts weeks later but is blaming my designer. The manager of the store is an owner and doesn't care that my husband could have been injured. Customer service is awful.

Updated review: I was delayed further and now the sofa is not coming in "allegedly" mid January. Funny enough I had decided to order a beautiful sofa from west elm, came within 2 weeks and I love it. As soon as this awful couch comes I'll have to sell it since I already have one and they won't compensate me at all for their mistake. I still stand by my previous review. This is just an update (if I ever get it). Just don't buy from here.ever.

After years of coveting an electric lounge chair; I saw the one I wanted at Jensen Lewis. And when the store reopened after COVID lockdown, the sale price was too good to turn down. In fact with the help of one of the salesmen. I ended up getting a couch instead of the chair. A Fjord electric couch. The chairs on the end are electric, the middle is not. Jim took time with me; did not pressure me and answered all my questions.

Finally after 3 months ( which I was told at the outset). my couch arrived. Except for a bit of problem with the time of delivery. it was an easy process. The couch itself is comfortable. the leather is soft and supple.

Jensen-Lewis noticed my review on Yelp and my salesman sent a representative to check out the ottoman that accompanied my chair. I sure hope it works, I am grateful that Jensen has made a second trip to my place to resolve this issue. Hope it works! The leather on American Leather chair is very soft and the color is beautiful. Hope this purchase has a happy ending. Again, the salesman was very proactive in helping right my issue. Thanks, Mike. Next month, hope to make it a five star!

Beautiful furniture and great quality. The customer service is the exact opposite though. I own one of their dining tables listed on their website and lost the hardware while moving. I called to ask about the hardware alone and the representative was extremely rude and impatient. He would not help me without an order number or SKU number. All I had with me was the name of the item and hung up on me twice. My local hardware store was far more helpful than the representative was. I will take this into account when consider any more items from them.

Happy owner of a beautiful and practical Exeter table. I ordered late September and I have been told it may be at the limit to get it for Thanksgiving. but that they will try their best. And THEY DID. From Mark to Mike and back, I got my table one week before Thanksgiving and could enjoy the special time with my family and friends all at the same fully extended table. Thank you Mark and Mike!

Showroom is very nice and they have a very good selection of products from good brands. We had a very nice salesman who was helpful. I too though had the same experience with buying a Ekornes stressless chair & ottoman. The order was super delayed and too 6 months to arrive. At first I thought it was a problem with the manufacturer but after reading the reviews it seems to be a common problem with Jensen Lewis.

Like so many others, I wish I had read the reviews here before ordering a sideboard from the Manhattan store. Jensen-Lewis runs a pure scam! They take your order, and your deposit, and then they delay your delivery as long as possible so they can use your cash to fund their operations. And if you cancel your order? Good luck getting your cash back any time soon. Beware.

These are not the signs of a healthy company. I placed my order in early January and was sensitive to timing so I was promised 6 week delivery worst case ("probably much sooner"). I received no calls and no sideboard at 6 weeks. After multiple calls into the store they explained that it was the manufacturers fault and they would have it in another 2-3 weeks. Again, no calls and no sideboard.

I checked on line and saw that mine was a common experience, with some people waiting 6 months so I called in and cancelled the order, requesting that my deposit be credited back to my card. At that time they said they could probably have a sideboard in another week or so (funny how that works when you cancel) but I said no thanks. Didn't trust them any more. Well, no credit.

A week later I received a call from Mike who reiterated the offer to get a sideboard for me. I told him that I had unambiguously cancelled a week earlier and had asked for a credit. He said it hadn't been done yet but he would put it through that day, and he sent me an email stating that it had been done. Two weeks later. no credit. I called and spoke to Mike again.

I asked to speak to his manager but he said he didn't have a manager. that he was a "principal" at Jensen-Lewis. and that it was probably my bank holding up the credit. I asked him to follow-up and he said he had done all that he could do. I called my bank and explained the situation, challenging the original charge, and they reversed it for me. Beware of Jensen-Lewis. Buying something there is akin to making them a loan. And, knowing that retailers regularly go bankrupt, that is a VERY bad idea.

Avoid. Similar to another reviewer, we ordered an Ekornes (Stressless) sofa in July 2018. It indicated a delivery date of 11-12 weeks. The sofa did not arrive until today, March 2019. 8 months later. No one communicated us what is leading to the delay. Very strangely, upon receipt of the sofa, it was not packed with Ekornes boxing or anything professional.

The sofa was wrapped in used/ dirty moving pads with plastic surrendering it. It felt as if we bought a used sofa. Do note we ordered a brand new sofa. Furthermore, upon further inspection there was a tear in the sofa. I will avoid doing business with Jensen Lewis and really expected more professionalism.

Based on my experience and other posts here, I believe this company is having financial issues and is intentionally delaying order fulfillment while holding deposits. Save your time, money, and frustration. I placed an order for a sleeper sofa and put down a 50% deposit on August 4th. The sofa was to be delivered in 12 to 15 weeks. I just received my sofa this week, so in total it took just over 6 months to get delivered rather than the quoted 2.5 months.

Throughout the process I was never contacted by Jensen Lewis to be updated on the status. When I called multiple times, I usually received the answer that the delays were "caused by the manufacturer". I finally had enough after 4 months of waiting and called the manufacturer directly and spoke to Jensen Lewis' account representative who was taken aback and sounded surprised that I had been waiting so long.

Since the 2.5-month window has come in gone, I have had family come in town twice in which case they had to stay in hotels rather than with me. I was offered a "loaner" sofa which I declined as that seemed to be a delay tactic and is not particularly sanitary in NYC. Jensen Lewis gave me a 7% discount for the delay. This amount barely covered 1 of the nights of hotel rooms I had to pay for. Please stay away for your own good.

I am currently 8-months pregnant and ordered a sleeper sofa back in July with the promise of a 10-12 week delivery window. It's now the end of November, 5 months later, and my husband and I have been emailing and calling for updates only to be met with vague, evasive answers or just total non-response. In our last exchange, the point-person for our order could not even confirm that the order had been completed yet.

I cannot begin to express how upset and inconvenienced I am over this situation. This sofa was meant to accommodate visiting family for the arrival of our new baby, and now we are completely out of luck. This is actually the second sleeper sofa we've ordered from Jensen-Lewis. As a returning customer, I'm so disappointed with this experience.

Wow, I wish I had read these reviews first before I ordered my recliner from these incompetent people @ Jensen & Lewis sales people and customer service, I ordered a recliner 18 weeks ago and was quoted 12-15 weeks, they are now telling me they have no idea when it will ship but I am at least another 5-7 weeks minimum, I have asked for compensation no response ask for principal contacts no response, today they asked me if I want to cancel my order. Unreal - why why why.

I want answers as to what and why this happened and no one will tell me anything. I have now reached out to the manufacturer directly to see if I can obtain some answers. I ordered this from Jensen & Lewis in NYC @ 969 3rd Ave. STAY AWAY! They don't care. Harold

DO NOT SHOP AT JENSEN-LEWIS. I ordered a sleeper sofa in August 2017 and was told it would be delivered in 12-13 weeks (mid November). Come the 12th week, I had not received a word from Jensen-Lewis, so I called to inquire about the status of the sofa. Mike, the operations manager, said it was going to be a couple of weeks late. As I was expecting guests who planned their trips to stay with me end of November under the impression I would have the sleeper sofa, Mike said he would look into a loaner sofa and get back to me in a couple of days.

A few days pass and having not heard from Mike, I called to follow up. Mike claimed he left me a voicemail, but apparently he left it at the wrong number. Thankfully they had an ugly, bright red sofa in the warehouse I was able to use as a loaner for the time being. A month passes, it's mid December, and surprisingly I received no update from Jensen-Lewis.

I called again and was told the sofa was ready to be shipped from the manufacturer in Texas and it'd take about a week to get to the NJ warehouse. Another couple of weeks pass, and it's January 2018. I finally receive a call to authorize the charge of the remaining balance and schedule the delivery date of the sofa. Extremely unsatisfied with the service and delay of the delivery, I explicitly did not approve the charge and asked Mike if I could receive a discount (every single person I talked to about my sofa saga confirmed I should receive some sort of compensation).

When Mike refused, I tried asking the sales rep, David, who sold me the sofa if he could help me out. David said he would contact customer service about my situation and get back to me. Later that night, I received a voicemail from Mike (who I'm assuming is the "customer service") saying he received David's note, but saw that I had authorized the charge of the remaining balance. UNBELIEVABLE.

I called Mike the next day, and after much back and forth he resentfully offered me a very small amount of credit that I saw was not a fair compensation. It has been over three weeks and the credit has still not been reflected in my bank statements. This whole experience has been a nightmare. Customer service was terrible, and unless you don't mind waiting half a year to receive your furniture, I advise you not to shop here.

Jensen-Lewis is a NYC classic! I love their selection of furniture and their sales people are always ready to help. I feel that the product they feature in their showroom has improved over the years, the look and feel of their current selections is really impressive.

After reading all the negative reviews, Im very hesitant from purchasing anything from this store, but I liked some of the items we saw in the store. They sell high end furniture, so it's obviously going to be more expensive than your average Crate and Barrel/West Elm. We have a lot of BDI items which they carry, though Im not really a fan of their newer media tables.

They do use solid wood which explains their $1899 price tag. I really liked their power reclining leather loveseat. It was really modern and still very comfortable. It comes in several colors so you can have it custom made. Even has a usb-port. Much nicer than those hideous brown attached recliners, but this one comes with a much higher price tag.

Slightly under $5k, kinda expensive for just a loveseat; we're going with theater seating in our office/movie room instead, otherwise that's something I'd consider. A salesperson followed us up to their showroom area which was a slight annoyance, but he was ready to answer all our questions and he wasn't pushy at all. L really liked one of their lounge chairs even though he's set on getting an Eames Lounge Chair eventually. The brands Jensen-Lewis are selling are known for their quality product so they won't be for everyone's budget, but they will certainly last for several years.
