Wow! Had a fantastic experience shopping here yesterday. Found the perfect couch and coffee table for my new home, and John went above and beyond, helping me choose the right sizes, fabrics, etc. I look forward shopping here again in the future.

John and Geoffrey were amazing! They are super helpful and even took time to give me design ideas with other competing store products in mind. They have a keen eye, attention to detail and most importantly.patience. Oh, and the quality of the furniture speaks for itself. I highly recommend Hip Furniture and John and Geoffrey!

Oh my gawd they are awful. $6k on a defective Natuzzi sofa and a year later I am still waiting on the repair. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Stay away from this company.

The folks at Hip nailed it, they expedited the shipping of a wonderful sleeper sofa that we absolutely love. It arrived in time for my guests and made the visit very comfortable for all. I love this piece, it's super cozy, fits the room great and is versatile. A seamless buying experience at a good price, very content and would recommend Hip to anyone.

We recently moved to Portland and had to completely furnish a 2 bedroom condo. We dealt with a number of furniture companies and HIP was by far the best and the most responsive. John and Geoff were absolutely amazing from purchase to tracking our order to arranging for delivery. John always got right back to us unlike DWR which was about as non-responsive as a company could be. Our furniture is beautiful, but most of all our experience with HIP -- John, Geoff and Leslie could not have been better. Thank you HIP.

Unparalleled service and unforgettable products! I could not stop thinking about some of the furniture I found at HIP and ended up purchasing several items. John was patient and helpful with our in-person decisions (including design and color selection help) and provided prompt follow-up on all e-mail questions. Marshall, the warehouse wizard, went waaaay above and beyond when he welcomed me in on a Sunday afternoon to learn how to assemble a floor model bed we purchased. The only issue is that I just want more and more. :) Seriously, shop HIP. Photos when we get our home set!

We shopped at Hip several times in the fall of 2020 to get some furniture for a new house. We got very good service from John who was great about meeting us at the store (often on short notice) and assisted us in purchasing a recliner and a sectional. We had selected a sectional with specifications that were a little unusual. John called the factory after we placed the order and learned it was not possible to get it the way we ordered it. So, we started over and are looking forward to receiving the sectional soon. The recliner is fabulous and we hope the sectional will be just as great. We're pleased with the furniture and the service!

I called to ask a simple question about the store and was treated so rudely. I will never shop at this store and discourage others from doing so.

We have been customers of Hip for over 15 years, they continue to be our first choice for all home furnishings. They have a wonderful selection and are so incredibly helpful. John was our advisor on this most recent purchase of a couch, lamp, and bench. He was invaluable in our decision making process and was a joy to work with. If you love modern design you really need to shop at Hip!

I hate writing reviews like this, but I also hate sleeping on the floor all summer which is what happened because our bed order through HIP got so totally screwed up. Back in June I reached out to see if HIP had a bed frame from EQ3 that was unavailable online, as EQ3 had HIP listed as an authorized dealer. I was told they could place the order and after some back and forth over text, phone and email, we got the order placed, with full payment issued up front.

I got only a very generic order confirmation and whenever I'd ask for an update I was told they'd look into it. Then I came to find out the order hadn't even been processed because EQ3 required a bigger order. Dave apologized and said he'd add some items and get the bed ordered and it should arrive in a few weeks. A few weeks came and went.

I started wondering what was going on and if this business was legit. We arranged an in-store visit and left feeling better, that at least the place was real and Dave was an established business owner. He offered to give us a discount on anything else we bought and apologized that the bed was taking so long. We considered buying other items but decided to wait to see how the bed turned out.

Good decision. A month after our meeting the bed still hadn't arrived. I kept after Dave and he said tracking showed it was on the way. I asked to see a copy and got the run around. Then I reached out again to say the bed needs to be here this week or we're walking and he said, "Didn't we talk yesterday? The shipment came in." No, we had not spoken, I assured him.

He had me confused with another customer who'd ordered a similar bed. Our order was nowhere to be found. He said it never made it to the warehouse and might be on another truck or something happened with EQ3 and they didn't ship it and he'd check with them in the morning, yadda, yadda. We demanded to see the purchase order and it's then that we discovered he'd ordered the wrong size bed. This, despite the fact I had multiple messages to him confirming the specs of the order months earlier. Unbelievable.

We asked for a refund and after some him-and-hawing it was agreed to. Dave again apologized and offered to send a check. Umm, no thank you, not after this order had gone so sideways. How could we be confident a check would show up or clear? He relented and issued a refund to our credit card which itself took another 4 days to appear, making us wonder if it had even been processed. Suffice to say, we won't be getting furniture through HIP.

This whole thing is so unfortunate, as we'd wanted to support a local business and Dave seemed nice enough. But as I look back, I was repeatedly given the run around and made to feel like the mistakes were someone else's fault and worse, that Dave didn't have any idea who I was or what I'd ordered. He gets some bonus points for the apologies and meeting us at the show room, but all and all this was not a good experience whatsoever and now, 4 months after moving into our home, we're back to square one and still sleeping on the floor. My back and patience are shot.

I cannot say enough in praise of this store! Having moved here just over two years ago, we have purchased many pieces from Hip and have been thrilled by the quality and impeccable service. We fervently hope they survive the Covid crisis as they are a wonderful local business with top notch employees and great products.

I recently purchased a couch at HIP Furniture and had exceptionally good service. The store is easy to browse in and the sales people are low key and very helpful. As a small business, their focus is clearly on customer satisfaction. I strongly recommend this store if you're looking for good quality furniture and value good service. Even the delivery service was par excellence.

What an awesome store! It is appropriately named Hip, as the furniture it sells is very fresh and modern. Everything is top quality but what really inspired me to write this review is the service. I was greeted by Lauren within a minute or so. She was very friendly and helpful but never-ever did I feel any pressure. When I asked for additional help with fabrics and wood selections she did not assume the sale was in the bag. She gave me the information and the comfort to leave in order to contemplate my decision. I highly recommend this place.

Dave, Rachel and Aaron were fabulous and all deserve a big virtual hug! HIP Furniture is a really good resource for people in Portland. The location/space to display the pieces is great and not only are they locally owned but they have quality, top of the line furniture with the most genuine and on-point customer service! Beautiful furniture and accessories. Not cheap - but original at reasonable prices. The only downside is every time I walk in I end up buying and wanting something.

My husband and I were out furniture shopping today and happened by this fabulous store! Perfect for our modern /mid century modern taste. We were greeted by Aaron as we walked in- he let us freely browse our way through the store. And then sat down with us when we were ready, and talked about our design needs in great length which we appreciate SO MUCH! We will definitely be back to buy our furniture! This is the most comfortable, no pressure, but helpful experience we have had!

I came for the Gus Modern line; good looking furniture at an affordable price. Hip not only carries the brand, but displays a good number of Gus's offerings on the floor. The sales team was a pleasure to interact with. I'll be returning in the future.

Not only terrific furniture selections at competitive prices but EXCELLENT service. We bought a "hide-a-bed" couch four or five months before using the "bed" function only to discover we couldn't figure out how to convert it to a bed configuration. With guests arriving we placed a panic call to the store hoping someone could tell us the secret. Dave Haleston answered and not only had the "secret, " he got in his car, came to our home and showed us in person how to do the conversion. IKEA this is not! Great people providing service with their excellent furniture selection. Thanks, Dave. We'll be back.

Hip carries a fantastic selection of mid century modern and contemporary furniture at competitive prices. In addition you get friendly designers more than willing to help. Every person we have interacted with has been friendly and helpful. If you like doing business within the community, and are tired of getting the run around at the corporate stores, take your business to Hip!

IMO buying furniture is right up there with buying a new car. I'd rather poke my eye out with a dull pencil than haggle over a couple of recliners. Lauren at Hip made this process painless and dare I say, "enjoyable"?!? We returned to Hip several times prior to our purchase as we worked through all of our choices. We were greeted at each visit with patience and genuinely happy associates who helped us with fabric details and craftsmanship.

There was never any pressure to buy and this allowed us to be absolutely certain our final decision was the right decision. I doubt I'll shop anywhere else for furniture. It was THAT good of an experience.

We have been looking for a sectional sofa for nearly 2 years when we visited Hip Furniture, walked through the door and immediately found exactly what we were looking for! Aaron who is genuinely the nicest and most knowledgeable, professional person we've encountered in our long search, was very helpful, there was no pressure or surprises just honest, competent advice.

We special ordered our sectional and we're told it would take 4 months. Every step of the way, Aaron's correspondence was exceptional. It arrived in Portland as expected and was delivered on the date requested. From start to finish, it was a great experience. We love Hip and our new sectional sofa!

Nicely done beautifully crafted furniture store, but with horrible customer no-service with ignorance salesperson/owner. Hey No one likes a smug, nose in the air, thinking they're the mutt's nuts. I don't care if you are the owner of the place or not. Would not recommend, don't wasting your time here.

They're friendly and honest. A lot of gorgeous and hard to find furniture. We came in and they let us browse and look around and when we wanted some help with the sofa beds he was more than happy to explain the features and answer questions I had about the manufacturer. Extremely knowledgeable. Will definitely be back.

We LOVE our new furniture we bought at Hip. We worked with Aaron to select bar stools and several new pieces for our living room for our new condo space. Aaron worked patiently with us as we selected each piece. He came to the new space to get a feel for appropriate scale and selection first hand. Aaron made suggestions based on the look we were hoping to achieve, keeping in mind our space restrictions, room-size and pieces we had.

He allowed us to take pieces home to "live in the space" for a few days, which proved to be perfect each time! He offered wonderful direction and has a terrific eye for color, scale, form and function. We recommend Aaron regardless if your space is downsized or super-sized. He selects many of the vignettes displayed at HIP and has a keen eye for space making a house a home! We loved our experience with Hip and Aaron!

We have been buying furniture from Hip for more than 10 years now. If you like modern furniture combined with great customer service, Hip is the place to go. It's not as expensive as places like Design Within Reach and Hive. Much more defined selection than Dania, not to mention better quality. For those on a budget, you can purchase that first beautiful piece from their floor stock sales (that's how we got hooked).

For those with a bit larger budget, one can find quality, timeless pieces that will ship in 2-6 weeks, perhaps longer under certain circumstances, depending on your specifications. Hip has an intimate store setting feel with adequate off street parking in the heart of NW Portland. The staff work as a team (not commission) to get you what you are looking for. They are friendly and knowledgeable which is hugely important when you are furnishing your "home sweet home."

Stopped in here as part of a continuing, and probably futile, attempt to find: 1) A fainting couch/day bed that is both contemporary and classic with a specific wood stain 2) A kitchen island that is functional, not huge, and can serve as a place to much a bowl of cereal while standing or on a stool Sure, I said fainting couch.don't look at me that way!

Hip Furniture has nice stuff - if you are looking for a Craig's List type steal you ain't gonna find it here. Prices for nice piece get above $1,000 quickly. However - they do have quite a few discounted pieces that are going out of stock, or are discontinued (maybe even a slight blemish - I didn't dig that deep). If I was furnishing a house with a larger budget (5-10K) this place would be great! However.

I am looking on the $200-$500 range, and so I was pretty much out of luck. They also have a good catalog selection, along with staff willing to spend some time looking for pieces for you. Sadly they had no kitchen islands, and the one fainting couch (yeah, yeah) there were no pics, and was asymmetrical - which pretty much means you NEED pics. Unless you are Escher or something 3.5 stars, rounded to 4, because it's not their fault I am "po."
