For people that appreciate fine craftsmanship and original custom made handcrafted furniture-this is the place. It is rare to find a business like this anymore and this one is thriving. We have gone to the showroom in Charlottesville Virginia and the selection and the sales staff are excellent. Custom made, hand made and made in the US and in Virginia-hard to match that. We love the place but most of all we love the wall beds.

We love their furniture and their staff. You can definitely pay more, but you will be pressed to find better quality furniture. We live in a condo and saw one of their Murphy beds in one of our neighbor's apartments. It was the perfect solution for having a large library bookcase and hideaway bed to our one bedroom place. All our guests love sleeping on the bed.

Since we have added a kitchen table, dining room table, full bedroom and a stool at our entrance way. Have not had buyer's for a single piece. Really high quality furniture.

Hardwood Artisans furniture is heirloom quality, beautiful, and extremely well-made. We visited their shop in Culpeper, VA, where everything is made by hand, and then stopped in to their Arlington furniture store to browse their vast collections. They're just stunning and we're happy to say we are now the proud owners of our own Hardwood Artisans Waterfall dining table! Highly recommend this place for quality furniture!

Last October we decided to take the plunge and replace our old bedroom furniture with the Glasgow line from Hardwood Artisans. There was no pressure to sell, and the salespeople were friendly and helpful. The showroom is amazing - I wanted everything I saw. I asked if we could get our furniture by Christmas, and was told we could. I had to follow up with a phone call to get the promised delivery date, apparently they are overwhelmed that time of year, but we did get the bedroom set as promised, and it is beautiful.

The delivery guys were professional and efficient. We will have this furniture for a lifetime, and then some. It is expensive, but they have several sales throughout the year, and they have a convenient email list so you can find out when the sales are happening. You can also support a local, US business. Highly recommended.

I was driving on 395 South near the Quaker Ln. exit and noticed that this delivery truck ran someone off the road behind me. Then they proceeded to cut me off when i was trying to merge. I drove by them and saw 2 young gentlemen driving/sitting in the front. Incredibly irresponsible drivers, they are a danger and a menace to the roads. What kind of company is this?

Love the handmade furniture and customer service. Thoughtful, engaging and personable staff are keen to help find just the right piece for your home. Is it expensive? Yep. But if you're looking for something made in the US, long-lasting, beautiful and distinctive, you should take a look. They even have floor specials for the bargain hunter.

This review is for the re-sell business that they run to sell used Hardwood Artisans furniture. Considering how differently this process was from the care shown for an original purchase and since these pieces aren't disposable furniture, I thought it merited a review. I'll stick to the facts - all of my interactions were with John Buss. - The original purchase was for a Murphy bed for my DC condo, used it sparingly over three years and needed to sell due to a corporate relo - Rather than ship it cross-country or donate the furniture, decided to give it a local home - Called Hardwood Artisans, who mentions of a consignment/Dutch auction they run. Starting price would be about 75% of original value. 60% cut of the price for service is steep but seemed hassle free and would go to a good home. - Pick-up process wasn't exactly flawless but it got done (Jan) - Then crickets for 3-4 weeks. Asked for status (early Feb) and told it would be in Fairfax store in two weeks, due to lack of space. Haven't checked to confirm if work needed to be done still. - Then crickets for another 3-4 weeks. Re-inquired for status (late Feb) and told it will be next piece in Fairfax store. - Nothing for 2.5 months. Re-inquired for status (early May) and told that they just put it on the bed.

They opt to do work on unit to sell at higher price. Piece is in the Culpepper showroom, with a Lemonade social next month. - Nothing for 2.5 months. Re-inquired for status (mid-July) and told that they'll check into it and get back to to me in the next few days. - No word again so I tell them that I will visit the store as I was in DC for a business trip. - First word that they have been working with a customer after a purchase. - Asked for date of purchase and price - no confirmation of date provided and a maybe price of about 40% of original purchase (before their 60% cut), possibly sold as a package with other furniture? Told that they would issue check soon. - Today (2 weeks since) - no updates, no check.

There are more personal observations that I opted to leave out. Based on my experience (which continues unfortunately), would I ever do business again with Hardwood Artisans again? Absolutely not. And if the original manufacturer can't sell their furniture without a huge depreciation after a few years of use, I can no longer assume that it is great quality.

My husband and I have been considering what our final (as in never wanting to buy another again) dining table would look like. What style and finish would it be? Hardwood Artisans answered all the questions at once. We got the customization and craftsmanship that we needed to merge our difference of styles. The staff is very professional and knowledgeable.

We can not wait to meet and entertain around our new family member. We have recieved out new bundle of joy. This table and chairs surpassed all of our expectations. Please, if you are in the market for custom, quality and exceptional furniture let Hardwood Artisans build it for you.

I am from Oregon, and went to visit a friend in VA. She took me to Hardwood Artisans, and I was very pleased by everything I saw. Every single one of their staff members were very friendly, and far from pushy. All of their furniture was beautiful. I couldn't find a piece that I didn't like! Everything was solid, and from what I could tell it was quality. Beautiful woods, and great designs by these guys. If I'm ever back in the area, I will be stopping in to either buy, or ogle at their furniture.

I stopped in here with Husband on a walk one morning to check out the goods. Turns out, they are pretty talented people! It was a slightly busy Saturday so we got missed on our way in and weren't greeted, but we weren't looking to buy anyway so we ignored that. Steve B. basically hit everything on the button with types of woods. They use beautiful hardwoods and do a nice job with the joining of the pieces.

What I was most impressed with were the unique pieces they had. One is a huge wall sized entertainment center with bookshelves that slide open to reveal a television. This was awesome. And it may not have been wall-sized, but I'm pretty teeny so it felt huge to me. It was classy, and wasn't just two panels in front of the tv. You could actually use that space as a showcase when the TV wasn't being used.

The style of furniture is kind of polarizing - I like the 50s/60s/70s styles and Husband doesn't, so we couldn't find anything we really agreed on other than the cool puzzles and sculptures. I don't know if they do real custom work, but I suppose they might consider if you ask. Like Steve B. mentioned, they also aren't into painted or upholstered furniture, so this is for serious wood lovers only. If you're going in looking for well-crafted, hardwood furniture, and don't mind spending the money for the materials and work, this is your place.

I'm very impressed with the furniture here. Like the name says, this is mainly a wood furniture store, so they don't do upholstered furniture. The furniture they do carry ranges from coffee tables and lamps to cushioned sofas, and wardrobes. This company started out building murphy beds and lofts, and they still build those, but they seem to more focused on more traditional furniture now.

The majority of the furniture is made from cherry, although I think you could order walnut or mahogany too. The quality of construction seems to be excellent; except for draw bottoms, all of the furniture is hardwood. The drawers are all dovetailed and the rest of the joinery seems to be solid as well. I really like the furniture designs they use.

The designs range from mission style furniture to more contemporary and I think the style is a lot more interesting that what's available at the bigger chain stores. All of the furniture I saw had an oil finish, so if you like the effects like the ebonized wood or the Pottery-Barn style milk paint, this isn't the place for you. Since the furniture is built locally, it may be more expensive than some of the larger stores, but its on par with Pottery Barn or Ethan Allen. I've looked at quite a few furniture stores and I've been most impressed with the fit and finish and style of this furniture.
